Whenever you drive any vehicle, there are commonsense checks you should make before driving off. These are detailed in the Highway Code and apply to all UK drivers.
If you drive an Openreach car or van, these checks must be completed. You will find them detailed, along with a check list, in the drivers' handbooks.
Daily cab checks
Daily external checks
Always start the walk-round check at the vehicle tax disc
D1 Current road fund licence visible and valid.
D2 Mirror and glass clean, effective and providing good visibility.
D3 All lights and reflectors working and effective (regardless of daylight).
D4 Number plates clean and visible.
D5 Body work undamaged, no jagged metal - report ANY and ALL damage.
D6 Check for evidence of fuel, oil or hydraulic oil leaks.
D7 Tyre condition, inflation and wheel fixings - daily visual check minimum.
Note: daily checks are visual only and do not require a pressure gauge.
D8 Exhaust and silencer effective.
Weekly / when re-fuelling external checks
W1 Tyre pressures (using gauge) and condition (tread, depth, even wear, cuts).
Note: weekly tyre pressure checks should be completed using tyre pressure gauges on service station forecourts.
W2 Engine oil and coolant.
W3 Windscreen washer fluid.
W4 Brake fluid.
Tyre pressure gauges have been supplied to Openreach managers to help them complete on-site AMS9S1 commercial vehicle safety review checks.
