Membership Benefits

Membership Benefits at Work

The Communication Workers Union is your union in the telecoms industry. There are currently over 260,000 people in the CWU, organised in more than 250 branches.

The CWU is made up of people like you - people who belong to the largest and fastest growing union in the industry.

The CWU is run by the members for the benefit of the members and employs a professional staff to ensure that you receive good quality advice and support. We offer all the benefits you would expect from a modern trade union, and many you might not...

Advice

Advice

At work, the CWU can provide information, advice and action on any problem - dismissal, medical retirement, promotion, leave arrangements or any of the hundreds of problems you are likely to meet.

If you are unfairly treated or dismissed we can represent you at an Employment Tribunal. However, the CWU's advice and representation does not end with Employment Tribunals, for if you are attacked or mugged, the CWU will take your case to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board.

Let's hope you never have an accident, get mugged, find yourself accused of criminal offence, get into trouble, or have any problem at all. But don't bank on it, as every year we represent thousands of members in these situations, nearly all of whom have thought it couldn't happen to me...

Safety

Safety

The CWU can and does make sure working conditions are as safe as possible. However, the union can't prevent all accidents. What it can do is make sure that members get properly compensated when they have an accident. Pressure from the CWU has already led to the appointment of Safety Officers and the introduction of safety courses in companies. During the last few years, the CWU has recovered millions of pounds in damages for members involved in accidents at work or contracting industrial diseases.

Legal Services

Legal Services

The CWU has the most comprehensive legal service you could wish for including: Claims For Personal Injury Damages, Clinical Negligence Cases, Industrial Diseases, Industrial Injury Benefit, Medical Appeals Tribunal, Personal Accident Benefit Scheme, Bandit Attack Scheme, Criminal Injuries Compensation, Scheme Appeal For And Against Ill Health Retirement, Drivers Protection Scheme/Road Traffic Act Prosecution, CWU Accident Helpline, Road Assist Scheme, Criminal Defence Scheme (On Duty Only), Employment Tribunal Cases.

Information

Information

We also provide information on a wide variety of subjects - the future of telecommunications in Britain; maternity rights; display Screen equipment regulations - and we regularly lobby MP's and Government Ministers to make sure your rights are being looked after at the highest level possible.

The CWU offers not only a professional trade union approach to your working life but also value for money for your monthly subscription. If you do have a problem or need any of our services, you are only a phone call away from one of our trained Head Office or Branch representatives who will be happy to assist you in any way they can.

We hope you will take the opportunity to join the Communication Worker's Union - we are here to help you. When you become a member, we want to ensure that you know what's going on. Many of our members find that they get more - and better - information through the CWU than they do through their employer.
